The Blossom park was created to provide a green escape for the Amsterdammers. The idea of planting cherry blossoms came from the close ties between Amsterdam and Japan. In the 1970s, the Japanese Women’s Club gifted a significant number of cherry blossom trees to Amsterdam as a symbol of friendship. These trees were planted in Amsterdamse Bos, creating a breathtaking display every spring. We’re all so happy with it! In our opinion it’s a must-vist if you can.
When to Expect the Blossoms
There are actually only 2-3 weeks a year that we can watch the beautiful 400 Japanese cherry blossom trees bloom! They usually bloom mid to late March, but the exact timing can vary based on weather conditions. This winter was quite mild, so the expectation is that you can see them from mid-March.
How to Get To the Cherry Blossom Park?
Getting to the Cherry Blossom Park is easy. Whether you choose to cycle, go by car or take public transport, the park is easily accessible from various parts of the city. We personally don’t recommend going by car, since it can be very crowded. It’s hard to find a parking spot.
If you’d like to go by bike, we highly recommend it! The route is around 12.5 km and it’s a nice route. Simply use Google Maps and select the ‘bike’ option :). Don’t have a bike? Rent one here.
Best Time to Visit?
For the best experience, plan your visit during the peak bloom period in early April, typically lasting two weeks. If you can go on weekdays instead of weekends to avoid big crowds.
