From August 20 to 24 2025, more than 10,000 ships from over 20 countries will sail into Amsterdam, creating an unforgettable spectacle on the water. Whether you’re a die-hard sailing fan or just in it for the atmosphere, this event is one you absolutely don’t want to miss.

What Is SAIL Amsterdam?
SAIL is the biggest sailing event in the world, and it only happens once every five years. The heart of the festival is the arrival of the Tall Ships: majestic historic ships, some over a century old, that sail from IJmuiden to Amsterdam via the 18 km-long North Sea Canal. Thousands of smaller vessels join the parade, and together they turn the waterways into a moving museum.
It’s not just impressive to watch, it’s a meaningful moment for many of the crew members, who’ve been at sea for months. For them, reaching Amsterdam is a celebration.
